A "Green" Production Facility

Bio-Fly's technology and products contribute to a green environment through reduction of chemical pesticides' use. In addition, we have set as a goal the implementation of a production process that is as "green" and environmentally-friendly as possible:

  • Use of biological waste as fodder for cattle – the remains of the artificial nutrient bedding used to grow the larvae, which is the facility's primary waste product, is treated with heat to eradicate residual living matter inside it, and then used as fodder in the Kibbutz's cattle shed. Auxiliary organic waste (such as food left over from employee meals) is added to the biological remains as fodder for cattle.

  • Paper recycling – paper bags used to disperse the flies in the fields are collected a week later, and are then transferred for shredding and recycling at the local compost production plant. Office paper waste is also separated and sent for recycling at the compost plant.
  • Nylon recycling – nylon sleeves used in the production process are collected and shipped for recycling.
  • Rainwater collection – during the production process, soft water is required to add humidity to the breeding rooms. We collect rainwater from the plant's roof and use this water during the entire year as an alternative to a chemical water softening system that is energy wasteful.
  • Reuse of the pupation bedding – wood sawdust and Vermiculite flakes, which are used as the bedding for the pupation of larvae, undergo disinfection in a thermal chamber after each cycle, and are then reused for pupation.
  • Environmentally-friendly release accessories – release of the flies in the fields is executed using bags made of recycled paper, in which fly food is placed on paper trays, as an alternative to the dispersal of environmental pollutants, such as plastics or foam.
